Apple Launches iPhone Duo: First Foldable Smartphone Hits India at ₹2,99,900

At its annual September event, Apple unveiled its long-awaited first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. Introduced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series by CEO John Ternus, the iPhone Duo is the company’s most expensive device to date, carrying a starting price tag of ₹2,99,900 in India ($1,999 in the US).

Design & Display

The iPhone Duo sports a passport-style folding design crafted with an aerospace-grade Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover. When open, it stands as Apple’s thinnest iPhone profile yet, featuring a massive 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner display with a glare-reducing nano-texture finish. When closed, it operates via a 5.4-inch outer display.

Durability: Features Ceramic Shield on the back, Ceramic Shield 2 on the front cover, and an IP68 dust/water resistance rating.
Biometrics: Integrates Touch ID directly into the side power button.

Performance & Hardware

At the heart of the iPhone Duo is Apple’s new 2nm A20 Pro chipset paired with an advanced custom vapor chamber cooling system and the company’s new C2 cellular modem.

Software: Runs iOS 27 with custom UI adaptations supporting side-by-side split-screen multitasking and Apple Intelligence (Siri AI) features.
Input Support: Apple confirmed support for the Apple Pencil (USB-C) on either display coming later in the year.
Battery Life: Powered by a dual-battery architecture delivering up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner screen, up to 44 hours on the outer screen, and 50% fast charging in just 20 minutes.

Camera Features

The rear camera system incorporates a 48MP Fusion Main camera (with 2x optical quality telephoto) and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera.

Selfie & Call Setup: Both the cover and inner displays feature 120Hz/4K capabilities with an under-display FaceTime camera.
Interactive Modes: Includes Duo Preview (allowing subjects to see their framing on the outer screen), Kid Cueanimations for children, and Smart Take hands-free shooting.

India Pricing & Availability

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo open on Friday, October 16, with official in-store availability starting Friday, October 23in India and over 70 countries. It will be offered in Star White and Night Sky color variants.
